  1. Provide a time-frame setting for auto-backup.

Replace the 'Automatic hourly backup' checkbox with 'Automatic Backup'. Provide an auto-backup setting option whereby one can choose one of the following for the automatic time-frame:

    Every x-hours (specify a value for x).
At every system startup and restart.
    Once daily at startup.
    Once daily at shutdown.

This will be in the next release of the software and will work for Vista onwards. There will be no XP support for this feature.

          • Allow purchased version to delete oldest backups first once backup drive is full.

Whenever the destination backup drive is full, Flashback stops backing up until space is cleared. Manually going back and deleting old backups takes a long time, and such a simple concept of allowing an option of deleting oldest backups automatically should be available to paying customers.

            • Email notification of failed backups (ideally via a cloud based notification service)

I want to know if a given PC isn't backing up (e.g. due to an application problem, network drive mapping problem or NAS problem for example).
Since I'm not using the PCs in question I wouldn't know that there's a problem. Also the users (my family) aren't techie enough to notice :-)

What i'd like to see is the option for failed backup reports (to be emailed to me).

I know this could be added as an option where as part of the setup I'd have to enter all the normal email details to the application during configuration (e.g. from…

Thanks for this fast save/restore software, but...
Add the possibility to restore more than one partition (or disk) at a time. For example i have my Windows installed on my C: disk and all applications are installed on my D: disk. I have the possibility ti save both C: ans D: at the same time, but there is no possibility to select C: and D: at restore time. If you enable this possibility, then we will save 2 reboot; actually we need 2 reboot (one for Time machine recovery and one for Windows), for C: and 2 reboot for D:. …

                • Password protection for backup files

Please introduce an option to encrypt backup files "on the fly", i.e. as a part of the backup process that creates them.

                  Justification:
                  a) some documents (or any parts of them) are never supposed to be stored "in plain text", at least on removable [backup] media.
                  b) encryption provides a level of protection from unauthorized changes.

The Restore part should then ask for a password if selected backup / snapshot is encrypted.

This way it'll be much easier than by utilizing TrueCrypt or BitLocker for backup media. Especially when you consider Warm / Cold Restore.

                  • Add backup shemes

I would buy your software if i could set up intelligent backup sheme like they are used in the full fleged imaging programs:

                    1. create 1 full backup then 6 incrementals (= one "Chain")
                    2. Keep the last 5 chains, delete older chains

This has several Advantages over the automatic merging of images:

                    1. It consumes more space but doesn't slow down Pc, since he doesn't have to merge only delete old backups
                    2. You have a much longer history of Images (=security) for errors (like virus) that are not discovered immediatley.
                    3. This would also satisfy the needs of…

                    • Visual representation of file mutations between snapshots

If you do not know the files that have changed between snapshots, you now have to scout for them manually.

In order to conveniently show the changes as detected by ax64 in backup browser, I would like to propose something along these lines:
                      1) default view in backup browser: automatically show the difference between last and preceeding backup (in colour),
                      - red coloured file in preceeding backup view if that file has disappeared in the latest backup
                      - green coloured file in latest backup view if that file was not present in preceeding backup (and thus new in latest backup) …

                        • bare metal restore to new drive

Seems like Time Machine v2 has some serious difficulties restoring to your hdd if you use diskpart and clean the disk completely. It seems to complete restore to the drive, but after a reboot at the end, the drive is not bootable...!

I shoudn't be dependant on having the right partitions in pristine order on my hdd; the program should simply warn me that partition scheme has been tampered with (or we are dealing with a new disk lacking the partitions to be restored), and ask if I want to overwrite for a complete bare metal BOOTABLE restore. Urgently needs…

                                  • option to exclude user-selectable folders and/or files before backup (if technically posible)

To keep image size as small as possible. Not only for ommitting the usual suspects like pagefile.sys and hiberfil.sys

The user defines the size of disk space beyond which the is automatically deleted oldest incremental backup.

                                        • Prevent Windows shutdown while backup is in progress..

If the user shutdown his computer while backup is in progress, the backup is stopped and a file "*.axtemp" is leaved in the destination directory. This seems to force AX64 to start a new full backup instead of an incremental backup, at next schedule...
